Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Officers report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then located numerous other marked cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials say early analysis suggest the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; investigators are presently not aware of any injuries in relation with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
An important official commented the incident left him speechless and needed to be solved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he wrote on online, referring to the killing of nine victims by a assailant aiming at people of migrant background in February 2020.
